From 2012-2017 Declan Harvey was one of the most recognisable voices of news on BBC Radio 1. He is a multi-award winning  and creative broadcast journalist working across radio and television. 


He has presented live news programmes and documentaries on BBC Radio 4, the BBC World Service, Radio 1,  LBC and BBC national and local radio and BBC One TV.


As a reporter he has worked across the UK and Ireland's major radio brands including BBC Radio 2, Radio 5live, Classic FM, Heart, Capital FM, RTE Radio 1 and Newstalk. For television he has reported from across Europe and America for the BBC Six O'Clock News, the News Channel, Victoria Derbyshire Programme, Sunday Politics  and BBC Newsline.


Declan holds an MA Theatre Practices (Voice)  and has trained hundreds of professionals - through  bespoke workshops - on topics including communication, news/radio script writing and creativity.



  • Declan is a frequent presenter of Good Morning Ulster and Evening Extra, the BBC's flagship radio news programmes in Northern Ireland. He also frequently anchors the main national news in NI, BBC Newsline.


  • He has presented rolling news coverage on Newsday -"the world's biggest breakfast news radio programme" with tens of millions of listeners on the BBC World Service.


  • Declan's original stories have appeared across the BBC's flagship programmes including the Six O'Clock News, Today (R4) and BBC Breakfast.


  • As Politics Reporter for BBC Raio 1 Declan covered key political events including the Brexit Referendum and 2016 US Presidential Election


  • Declan was nominated as National Reporter of the Year 2015 at the Sony Radio Academy Awards and named Young Journalist of the Year (2012) at the Sky News/IRN Radio Awards. He was part of the Sony Gold winning Best News Programme 2013. In 2018 he was nominated for Best Newcomer to Regional Television for his work with BBC Newsline at the BBC Ruby Awards.
